Prajwal Revanna Convicted of Sexual Assault in Landmark Case

Former MP and JDS leader Prajwal Revanna has been convicted in a serious case of sexual assault against a 48-year-old female domestic worker. Special Court Judge Santosh Gajanan Bhat found him guilty on Friday. Revanna faces accusations of sexually abusing multiple women, and over 2000 explicit videos involving him have gone viral on social media. The sentencing of Revanna, the former MP from Hassan, is expected shortly.

Serious Allegations and Sections Invoked

The incident occurred at the Gannikada Guest House in Hassan district, where Revanna allegedly sexually assaulted the 48-year-old female domestic worker of his family. He is also accused of recording the act on his mobile phone. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has filed a charge sheet under several serious sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 376(2)(k) and 376(2)(n), along with Section 66E of the IT Act.

Rape Occurred at Two Locations

The prosecution told the court that the victim was raped twice in 2021—first at his residence in Hassan and then at his residence in Bengaluru. The charge sheet includes statements from 113 witnesses, detailing the severity of the case. The hearing in this high-profile case was completed on July 18, and the sentencing is now pending.

Objectionable Videos Viral on Social Media

Prajwal Revanna is the main accused in four cases of sexual harassment. These cases came to light after over 2000 objectionable videos featuring him with women went viral on social media and other online platforms. The first complaint was filed in April 2023, bringing significant political and social attention to the matter. This scandal has sparked discussions across the country about women's safety and ethics in politics.
