A meeting of Quad foreign ministers is being held in New Delhi on Tuesday, with discussions expected to focus on security in the Indo-Pacific region, the economic impact of ongoing conflicts in West Asia, global supply chains, critical minerals, and cooperation in emerging technologies. The meeting is taking place amid multiple geopolitical challenges and economic uncertainties worldwide.
India’s External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will participate in the high-level meeting alongside United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong, and Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi. India is currently chairing the Quad grouping and is hosting the meeting as part of its presidency.
The Quad grouping, comprising India, the United States, Japan, and Australia, has emerged in recent years as a strategic platform aimed at ensuring peace, stability, and free maritime routes in the Indo-Pacific region. Amid increasing Chinese military and maritime activities, the group is considered to play a role in maintaining regional balance.
Experts said the meeting could include discussions on the South China Sea, maritime security, regional connectivity, and strengthening a rules-based international order. The Indo-Pacific region is considered a key hub for global trade and energy supplies, making stability in the region a priority for all member countries.

The meeting is also expected to focus on the global economic effects of ongoing conflicts in West Asia. According to experts, rising tensions in the region could affect oil prices, global trade routes, and supply chains. Quad countries may consider ways to strengthen cooperation to maintain energy security and economic stability.
Concerns over inflation, trade costs, and energy supply have increased globally due to the war in Ukraine and the crisis in West Asia. In this context, strategic coordination among Quad countries is considered important for the global economy.
The meeting is expected to include discussions on securing and diversifying supply chains for critical minerals. Global demand for minerals required for electric vehicles, semiconductors, defence equipment, and clean energy technologies has increased rapidly. Analysts said Quad countries could expand cooperation to develop alternative supply networks to reduce dependence on China.
The ministers may also consider strengthening partnerships in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and emerging technologies. According to India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the meeting will also review progress on the Quad’s existing initiatives. In recent years, the grouping has launched joint initiatives in areas including vaccine distribution, maritime surveillance, disaster management, climate change, and infrastructure development.
The Quad countries aim not only to strengthen security cooperation but also to promote economic development, technological partnerships, and regional stability, making the platform an important forum for global strategic discussions.
