Among those who have made the allegations are actress Rini N. George, writer Honey Bhasker, and transgender woman Avantika. Amid pressure from the BJP and opposition parties, he has resigned from the post of Youth Congress President but has decided to remain as an MLA. The police have stated that there is no concrete evidence against him so far, while the Congress has formed a special committee for investigation.
Rahul Resigns from the Post of Youth Congress President
Amid allegations of sending obscene messages and inviting individuals to hotels, Rahul Mamkootathil resigned from the post of Youth Congress President on ethical grounds. Actress Rini N. George revealed that she was invited to a five-star hotel and received obscene messages. Although initially she did not name anyone, Rahul's name became the subject of discussion on social media and in party groups.
This matter led to protests in the state, which also involved youth organizations of the BJP and CPI(M). Following this, Rahul resigned but announced his intention to remain as an MLA.
Congress Forms Committee to Investigate Allegations
The Congress has formed a special committee to investigate all the allegations leveled against Rahul Mamkootathil. The task of this committee will be to conduct an impartial investigation of the allegations and prepare a report.
The party has clarified that for the time being, organizational action is sufficient and there is no need for resignation from the MLA post. The Congress says that the issue of remaining as an MLA will be resolved within the party itself.
Police Refuse to File FIR
The police have said that in the absence of any concrete evidence at present, no FIR has been registered in the case of inciting forced abortion or sexual harassment.
Officials also stated that the complaints are based only on media reports and discussions on social media. For the time being, the police have closed the case and no legal action has been initiated.
Society and Opposition Demand Resignation
Due to this controversy, many political and social organizations, including the BJP and CPI(M), are demanding the resignation of Rahul Mamkootathil from the post of MLA. Protests have taken place in various parts of the state and this matter has become a major topic of political discussion.
