Senior Samajwadi Party leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Prof. Ram Gopal Yadav, has advised the central government to adopt a firm stance regarding the announcement by US President Donald Trump to impose a 25 percent tariff on Indian products. He stated that India should respond with a concrete strategy instead of bowing down to the United States.
Prof. Yadav said that Trump's behavior in global politics is as if he is playing the role of an emperor and other countries are subordinate to him. He appealed to the central government to take strict action on this matter, keeping the national interest paramount.
Modi is my friend but I love Pakistan
Recalling Trump's old statement, Ram Gopal Yadav said that some time ago, when the US President was questioned about Prime Minister Narendra Modi at a press conference, he had said that Modi is his friend, but he loves Pakistan. Yadav cited this statement as an example of America's double standards and said that India should now stand up against such a disrespectful attitude.
He said that if powerful nations like America adopt such policies, then a country like India also has to respond with self-respect. Now is the time for India to re-evaluate its relations with the United States and take steps under a clear strategy, he said.
Politics heats up over talk of 25% tariff and penalty on India
The United States recently announced that a 25 percent tariff will be imposed on Indian products from August 1st. The Trump administration claims that India imposes the highest tariffs compared to other countries and there are also the most trade barriers there. Not only this, Trump has also talked about collecting a 'penalty' from India.
Politics in the country has heated up after Trump's announcement. All the opposition parties, including Congress, have started targeting the central government. However, no official reaction has been received from the Modi government on this issue so far.
This comment by the SP MP has further intensified this debate, making it clear that there is serious concern in political circles regarding America's tariff policy.
