Preparations for the three-tier panchayat elections in the state have gained momentum. In the meantime, BJP's ally, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), has announced it will contest the elections alone. This decision has created a buzz within the BJP.
Lucknow: With the Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Elections 2025 on the horizon, political temperatures are steadily rising. Amidst this, the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) has announced its decision to contest the elections independently, causing a stir among the BJP leadership. Led by RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary, the party has expressed confidence in its local workers and organizational strength. The BJP is now preparing to hold discussions with Jayant Chaudhary to finalize decisions regarding potential alliance options for the panchayat elections.
RLD's Self-Reliant Stance
Amidst the preparations for the three-tier panchayat elections in the state, the RLD has made it clear that it will contest the elections on its own without joining any alliance. Dr. Kuldeep Ujjwal, State Convener of the RLD Panchayat Election Committee, stated, "If the organization is b at the local level, success in the assembly elections will be easier. Our focus is on building a b organization and playing a decisive role in the panchayat elections."
Dr. Ujjwal believes that panchayat elections are not just about local bodies, but they also lay the foundation for future assembly and Lok Sabha elections. He added that the party will move towards victory based on the active participation of its local workers and its grassroots network.
BJP in a Tizzy After RLD's Decision
Following the RLD's decision, the BJP has expedited its strategy for the panchayat elections at the district and regional levels. The party has appointed conveners and co-conveners and has also intensified efforts to update voter lists. The BJP aims to secure victory in most Zila Panchayat Chairman and Block Pramukh positions this time as well.
Satyendra Sisodia, Regional President of the BJP, stated that a final decision on the alliance has not yet been made. "The top leadership will hold talks with RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary to arrive at a final decision. We are monitoring the situation closely, and the strategy will be formulated accordingly." The RLD's stance of contesting alone could prove challenging for the BJP, as it may impact their strategy and create an imbalance in vote share at the local level.
There is an atmosphere of uncertainty in the political landscape regarding the upcoming discussions between the RLD and the BJP. These deliberations will not only determine the course of the panchayat elections but may also influence the possibilities of an alliance in the upcoming assembly elections.
