Indian equity benchmarks recorded gains throughout Monday's trading session. The Sensex advanced 1.66% to close at 75,692.78, while the Nifty 50 rose 1.68% to finish at 23,440.80.
The Sensex opened at 75,178.24, while the Nifty began trading at 23,222.30. Buying interest in Reliance Industries and several other heavyweight stocks helped both benchmark indices maintain their upward momentum until the closing bell.
The market's upward movement followed gains in the previous session on Friday, when the Sensex advanced 308.49 points and the Nifty gained 116.35 points. With Monday's gains, both benchmark indices closed higher for the third consecutive trading session.
On the BSE Sensex, shares of 23 out of 30 constituent companies ended higher, while seven closed lower. On the Nifty 50, 38 stocks advanced and 12 declined.
Reliance Industries emerged as the biggest contributor to Monday's market rally, with its shares rising 11.64%. This marked the company's largest single-day gain since April 2020.
The rally followed the company's September-quarter financial results. Reliance Industries reported a 33.8% year-on-year increase in consolidated profit to Rs 29,550 crore.
The company's revenue also increased 27.8% to Rs 3.62 lakh crore.
Performance in its oil-to-chemicals business and Jio operations contributed to investor buying following the quarterly results. Given Reliance Industries' significant weight in the benchmark indices, the sharp rise in its share price played an important role in lifting both the Sensex and the Nifty.
