Concerning news has emerged for fans of Indian cricket team's star batsman and vice-captain Shreyas Iyer. He sustained a serious injury during the third One-Day International (ODI) against Australia.
Sports News: Indian cricket team's vice-captain Shreyas Iyer suffered a severe rib injury while taking a catch during the third ODI against Australia. According to the latest information, his injury is more serious than initially thought, and he has been admitted to a hospital in Sydney, where he is currently in the ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
According to information received by PTI, Iyer experienced internal bleeding after the injury, which led doctors to decide on immediate hospitalization. Sources stated that the medical team has decided to keep Iyer under observation for 2 to 7 days as a precautionary measure to prevent any infection from spreading due to the bleeding.
How did Shreyas Iyer get injured?
The incident occurred during the third ODI played in Sydney. An Australian batsman, Alex Carey, hit a shot into the air, and Iyer ran towards backward point, diving to take a spectacular catch. However, in this effort, he sustained a forceful blow to his ribs. Upon falling, Iyer writhed in pain and lay on the ground for a few minutes. The team physiotherapist immediately rushed onto the field and, after an initial examination, he was stretchered off the field.
The medical team of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) promptly admitted him to a hospital in Sydney. According to a PTI report, a source revealed that signs of internal bleeding were found during the examination, leading to his admission to the ICU. The source stated, "Shreyas Iyer suffered from internal bleeding after injuring his ribs. Doctors took no risks and immediately hospitalized him. His condition is currently stable, but he will be kept under observation for 2 to 7 days to prevent any infection from spreading."

Condition worsened while leaving the field
After sustaining the injury during the match, his condition deteriorated as he was being taken to the dressing room. His blood pressure, pulse rate, and body temperature became erratic. Additionally, he began experiencing difficulty breathing. Following this, the team doctors wasted no time and transferred him to the hospital. Doctors stated that if his injury had been deeper, the situation could have been critical.
A source said, "This incident was extremely serious. If he hadn't received medical assistance a little longer, it could have proven fatal. But the good news is that his condition is now stable and gradually improving." Given Shreyas Iyer's injury, it is anticipated that he will require a long period of rest.
Recovering from internal bleeding in the ribs is not easy, and it can take several weeks for players to regain fitness. Shreyas's recovery could take at least 3 to 4 weeks. The medical team is exercising complete caution to prevent any infection or complications.
