Police have registered a case against two doctors on the orders of the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) in connection with the death of a woman following surgery in Sonbhadra. The case has been registered on allegations by the deceased woman's family that medical negligence during treatment and surgery led to her death, and an investigation is underway.
The death of a woman following surgery in Sonbhadra district has taken a new turn after the Chief Judicial Magistrate directed police to register a case against two doctors for alleged medical negligence. Complainant Vinod Kumar Yadav alleged that serious negligence during his mother's treatment and surgery resulted in her death. Following the court's direction, police registered the case and initiated an investigation.
According to the complaint, Vinod Kumar Yadav, a resident of Rekshahwa village in the Chopan police station area, admitted his mother, Samita Devi, to Sonbhadra Multispeciality Hospital and Trauma Centre in Urmaura on April 29, 2022, after she suffered a hip fracture and complained of pain. Her treatment began under the supervision of Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh, and the required medical examinations were conducted.
The family alleged that after the initial treatment, Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh referred the patient to Maa Rajvanti Hospital in Varanasi, citing the availability of better medical facilities. According to the complaint, the woman underwent surgery there on May 3, 2022, with Dr. Sandesh Kumar Singh serving as the anaesthesiologist.
The family alleged that the woman's condition deteriorated suddenly after the surgery and that she died shortly thereafter. They further claimed that essential medical resources were inadequate during her treatment, which worsened the situation.
The complainant stated that all necessary medical tests conducted before the operation were normal and that the doctors had declared the patient fit for surgery. Despite this, the woman died immediately after the operation, leading the family to suspect medical negligence.
The complaint also alleged that there was mismanagement regarding the availability of oxygen cylinders at the hospital and that sufficient resources were not available when required. These allegations formed the basis of the petition filed before the court.
Following the Chief Judicial Magistrate's order, police registered a case against Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh of Sonbhadra Multispeciality Hospital and Trauma Centre and Dr. Sandesh Kumar Singh of Maa Rajvanti Hospital in Varanasi.
Police said a fair investigation is being conducted. Treatment-related documents, medical records and other evidence will be examined. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and the available evidence. Police said statements from all parties and medical records would be examined before reaching any conclusion.
