Lucknow: A tragic road accident on Saturday evening in the Lucknow Cantt area of Uttar Pradesh snatched the happiness of several families. A speeding Thar collided with an e-rickshaw near Bania Mohal Square, leading to the death of two young men and seriously injuring six others. Police have arrested the accused, Akshay Singh, and registered a case, initiating an investigation.

Accused in Lucknow E-Rickshaw Accident Arrested

The accident occurred around 7:30 PM on Saturday evening at Bania Mohal Square in Lucknow Cantt. Eight friends, returning from a visit to the Khatu Shyam Temple, were all riding in the same e-rickshaw. Suddenly, a speeding Thar violently collided with the e-rickshaw. The impact was so severe that screams erupted at the scene, and passersby immediately informed the police and ambulance services.

Upon reaching the scene, the police admitted all the injured to the nearest trauma center. In this accident, e-rickshaw driver Umesh Sahu and his friend Mohit Rajput died, while the other six people sustained serious injuries. The accused, Akshay Singh, was arrested by the police the same night from the Sushant Golf City area.

Grief Engulfs Umesh and Mohit's Homes After Accident

This accident snatched the happiness from Umesh and Mohit's families. On Sunday, when the bodies of both arrived home, screams and chaos erupted. A pall of gloom descended upon the home of Umesh, a resident of Sherpur Lawal village. His father had already passed away, making Umesh the sole support for his entire family. He used to manage household expenses by driving an e-rickshaw and had recently purchased a new rickshaw on installments.

Mohit Rajput's situation was even more tragic. He had gotten married in February this year, and his wife, Sandhya, is pregnant. The family did not inform her of her husband's death throughout the night. When the body arrived home on Sunday, Sandhya repeatedly fainted. Villagers tried to console the family, but the atmosphere of grief was evident on every face.

CCTV Footage Reveals the Truth Behind the E-Rickshaw Accident

During the investigation, the police examined the footage from nearby CCTV cameras. The footage revealed the entire scene of the Thar's high speed and its collision with the e-rickshaw. Police stated that the accused was driving the vehicle at a very high speed and collided with the e-rickshaw after losing control.

After the incident, the accused fled the scene, but the police arrested him from his flat after extensive investigation and location tracking. An FIR has been registered at Cantt police station based on a complaint filed by Mahavir Prasad, a resident of Raebareli. Police informed that the accused, Akshay Singh, was preparing for the Merchant Navy.

Accident Investigation Ongoing

Cantt police stated that a full investigation into the accident is underway. The injured are receiving treatment at the trauma center, and their condition remains critical. The police also emphasized that strict measures will be increased against negligent driving to prevent such accidents in the future.

This incident has once again raised questions about road safety and the problem of speeding vehicles. Families have lost their sole providers, and grief has spread through the villages. This accident is not just a shock to two families but to the entire society.
