Sultanpur district witnessed an encounter between police and criminals late Friday night. The Dehat Kotwali police, acting near the Pakhrauli railway crossing, arrested two criminals after they sustained gunshot wounds. Both criminals have been hospitalized for treatment of injuries to their legs.
Police received intelligence that two suspects were travelling through the area in a white Swift Dzire car. Based on this information, police and the SOG team established a cordon. Upon spotting the police, the criminals opened fire. In retaliatory fire, both criminals were injured by police gunfire.
The injured criminals have been identified as Mohammad Ehteman, son of Zubair Ahmed, and Mohammad Ansar, son of Mohammad Liaqat Ali, both residents of Jaunpur district. According to police, both individuals were wanted in connection with a truck theft that occurred in November.
Following the encounter, the injured were initially taken to the Community Health Center, from where they were referred to the District Medical College. Police recovered weapons and the car from the scene. Further legal action is being taken in the matter.
