Tamim Iqbal has been appointed as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) by the Bangladesh government following the dissolution of the board of directors led by Aminul Islam Bulbul on Tuesday.
The Bangladesh government disbanded the existing BCB board headed by Aminul Islam Bulbul before appointing Tamim Iqbal as president. The decision comes amid ongoing concerns regarding administrative instability, electoral irregularities, and performance-related issues within the board. Tamim Iqbal has become the youngest president in the history of the BCB.
According to media reports, the decision was taken following recommendations from a high-level inquiry committee. The committee reviewed the board elections held in October last year and identified multiple irregularities. The investigation found that the election process lacked full transparency and highlighted several administrative shortcomings. Following these findings, the government dissolved the existing board with immediate effect and introduced an interim arrangement.

The government has constituted an 11-member ad-hoc committee under the leadership of Tamim Iqbal. The committee includes individuals with experience in cricket and administration to improve operational efficiency and transparency. Former captain Minhajul Abedin and former cricketer and commentator Athar Ali Khan are among the members. The committee’s primary objective is to reform cricket administration and establish a ber framework to address upcoming challenges.
The National Sports Council (NSC) of Bangladesh has supported the decision. A senior NSC official stated that the previous board was unable to effectively discharge its responsibilities and its structure was not in accordance with regulations. The official also confirmed that the International Cricket Council (ICC) has been informed of the decision. The government expects the ICC to accept the change and assist in restoring stability in Bangladesh cricket.
