The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond Records Fifth-Day Box Office Increase During Holi Holiday

The film The Kerala Story 2: Goes Beyond recorded an increase in box office collections on its fifth day following its release amid controversy. The rise in earnings coincided with the Holi holiday, which contributed to higher footfall at theatres.

The film was released on 27 February and opened with a collection of ₹75 lakh on its first day despite having limited shows. Trade analysts had described the opening as satisfactory considering the restricted screen count.

According to reports, the film collected approximately ₹4 crore on Tuesday, which coincided with the Holi holiday. On the fourth day, the film had earned ₹2.65 crore. The fifth-day earnings therefore represented an increase of around 60 percent.

Earlier, the film recorded collections of ₹4.65 crore on the second day and ₹4.75 crore on the third day. Although collections declined on the fourth day, theatre attendance rose again during the holiday period, leading to the fifth-day increase.

After five days of release, the film’s net collection has reached approximately ₹16.65 crore, while the gross collection is reported to be around ₹19.75 crore worldwide.

The Kerala Story 2 drew attention and controversy soon after its trailer was released. The film’s narrative focuses on the lives of three Hindu girls and depicts their alleged forced religious conversion and subsequent events.

Critics alleged that the film portrays the state of Kerala in a negative light. Legal disputes surrounding the film also led to a temporary halt to its release before it was eventually screened in theatres.

The film is produced by Vipul Amrutlal Shah and directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh.

The first film in the series, The Kerala Story, released in 2023, had also faced controversy but recorded b box office performance. The earlier film earned ₹11.14 crore on its fifth day and collected ₹81.14 crore within its first week.

In comparison, the current film’s pace at the box office has been slower so far. However, the increase in collections on the fifth day indicates continued, though limited, audience turnout.
