Actor-turned-politician Thalapathy Vijay addressed office-bearers of his party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), in Thanjavur district on Wednesday. The meeting brought together 4,900 party office-bearers from eight Assembly constituencies in the district.
Vijay departed from Chennai on Wednesday morning and reached Thanjavur by road via Tiruchirappalli airport. He addressed the gathering at Ayyampettai, where party office-bearers from eight Assembly constituencies of the district were present. These constituencies include the Thiruvidaimarudur Assembly seat, which is reserved for Scheduled Castes and is currently represented by Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister Govi Chezhiyan.
The meeting was organised on a ten-acre site, according to TVK General Secretary N Anand. He stated that approximately 4,900 office-bearers from across the district attended the event. Entry to the venue was restricted to QR pass holders, and the passes were issued only to selected party members. Pregnant women, children, school students, senior citizens, and differently-abled members did not participate in the programme due to security considerations.

The party stated that the meeting was intended to motivate office-bearers and communicate the party’s message ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) won seven seats in Thanjavur district, while the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) secured one seat.
During the meeting, Vijay criticised the ruling DMK government and shared his party’s message in preparation for the upcoming Assembly elections. Supporters present at the gathering awaited Vijay’s remarks on the policies and actions of the ruling government and the electoral agenda of TVK.
Vijay indicated in his address that his party would engage with the public and raise questions about the policies and actions of the ruling party. The party leadership organised the event with security arrangements that included restricted entry through QR passes and the deployment of police and security personnel. Arrangements for entry, seating, and other logistics at the venue were organised under controlled conditions.
