Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning hit Uttar Pradesh’s capital Lucknow early Thursday morning, disrupting normal life in several parts of the city. Strong winds, dense cloud cover and power outages were reported across multiple localities before the weather gradually cleared after around 9 am.

The spell of b winds and thunder began around 4 am, followed by intense rainfall in several areas. Waterlogging was reported on roads in multiple localities, while tree branches were also reported to have fallen due to b winds.

Power supply remained disrupted for some time in areas including Gomtinagar, Aliganj, Indiranagar, Chinhat, Hazratganj and Charbagh. Officials said faults developed in power lines due to b winds. Electricity department teams carried out repair work throughout the morning.

The change in weather brought some relief from the intense heat conditions prevailing over the past several days. A drop in temperature was recorded following the morning rainfall, leading to cooler weather conditions in the city.

Traffic movement was also affected during the rain. Office-goers and school students faced difficulties due to waterlogging and slippery roads, while vehicles moved slowly in some areas.

According to the Meteorological Department, the change in weather was caused by the impact of a western disturbance and moisture-laden winds over the state. Weather experts said intermittent cloud cover and light rainfall may continue over the next few days.

Dense dark clouds covered the sky during the morning hours, creating low-light conditions in several areas. Thunder and lightning prompted many families to switch off electrical appliances as a precautionary measure.

Cool winds were reported across parks and roads after the rainfall. Several residents were seen outdoors during morning walks, while children and young people were also seen enjoying the rain.

Residents said the sudden change in weather provided relief from the heat, although power cuts and waterlogging caused inconvenience. Internet and mobile network disruptions were also reported in some areas during the morning hours.

Weather experts said pre-monsoon activities are currently active in the region, resulting in sudden thunderstorms, rain and lightning due to heat and humidity conditions. People have been advised to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions.

The administration appealed to residents not to stand in open areas during heavy rain and lightning activity and to maintain distance from trees and electricity poles.

Videos of rain and dark clouds were widely shared on social media, showing trees swaying in b winds and rain-soaked roads across different parts of the city.

The weather began clearing gradually after around 9 am, with sunlight returning in several areas. However, light cloud cover remained in the sky. The Meteorological Department said humidity levels may rise during the day, although weather conditions could change again by evening.

The sudden change in weather conditions in Lucknow continues to remain a topic of discussion among residents, with people remaining cautious about weather conditions over the coming days despite relief from the heat.
