Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee of TMC Strategized to Improve Image in Delhi. Kalyan Banerjee Erupted in 12-Minute Online Meeting, Resigned. Subsequently, Abhishek Banerjee was Made Leader of the Parliamentary Party.

West Bengal Politics: A strategy for major changes in the Trinamool Congress (TMC) was devised ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee were preparing to form a new team with the aim of improving the party's image in Delhi. However, this plan fell apart in just a 12-minute online meeting. The situation became more complicated after Kalyan Banerjee's b opposition and resignation. Following this, Abhishek Banerjee was declared the leader of the parliamentary party, but discontent was clearly visible within the party.

Mamata Banerjee's Preparation for the 2026 Elections

West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has become active early for the 2026 Assembly elections. To further strengthen the party's presence in Delhi and stabilize the party's position in the INDIA alliance, she, along with her nephew Abhishek Banerjee, planned changes in the organization.

This strategy was formulated with regard to discipline, coordination within the party, and decisive leadership at the Delhi level. Abhishek Banerjee was assigned to lead this plan so that he could become the face of the party in Delhi, while Mamata Banerjee would remain the main face of the party in Bengal.

New Team and Old Discontent

Under this strategy, there were plans to remove Kalyan Banerjee, the party's Chief Whip in the Lok Sabha, and Sudip Bandyopadhyay, the leader of the parliamentary party. Mamata and Abhishek wanted a new and energetic team to give the TMC a new edge in Delhi.

According to an NDTV report, the implementation of this plan began with a 12-minute virtual meeting. In this meeting, Mamata Banerjee directly questioned Kalyan Banerjee's role and spoke about giving new responsibilities to MP Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar.

Kalyan Banerjee's Discontent and Resignation

Kalyan Banerjee flared up as soon as Mamata Banerjee raised the question. He resigned in the meeting itself and then publicly expressed his displeasure by talking to the media. Kalyan Banerjee said that he was being blamed for the lack of coordination among the MPs, while many MPs do not even attend the Parliament sessions.

He directly questioned how it was fair to blame him alone when the MPs themselves do not come to Parliament. He named MPs from areas like Bankura, Barrackpore, South Kolkata, and North Kolkata, saying that they are never seen in Parliament.

Setback to TMC's Strategy

The party's strategy suffered a major setback due to Kalyan Banerjee's sudden resignation and statements. This entire episode became a headline in social media and news media, exposing the party's internal strife.

After this episode, the party also removed Sudip Bandyopadhyay from the post of leader of the parliamentary party and handed over this responsibility to Abhishek Banerjee. This change was important from an organizational point of view, but the way it happened raised questions about the party's unity and decision-making process.

Abhishek Banerjee Given New Responsibility

After removing Kalyan Banerjee and Sudip Bandyopadhyay, the party has now appointed Abhishek Banerjee as the leader of the parliamentary party in the Lok Sabha. He has been considered Mamata Banerjee's political successor. Now, Abhishek will lead the party's strategy in Delhi, communication with the INDIA alliance, and the party's role in Parliament.

According to sources, Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee are unhappy with this development, but they have now decided to move forward. Abhishek also tried to persuade Kalyan Banerjee and indicated that he would come to Delhi soon to meet him.

New Coordination in Mamata-Abhishek's Relations

In the recent past, news of differences between Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee has surfaced. But recent events have made it clear that both are now on the same page. Both are working together to decide the party's future strategy.

According to sources, the TMC is now working on two levels—Mamata Banerjee will handle the leadership in Bengal, and Abhishek will determine the party's direction in Delhi. This will not only give the organization dual leadership but also maintain a balance between the Center and the state.

Kalyan Banerjee's Allegations and Questions

While talking to the media, Kalyan Banerjee expressed his displeasure with the party leadership. He said that Mamata Banerjee accused him of a lack of coordination among the MPs in the virtual meeting. He questioned what he alone could do when the MPs themselves were not present in Parliament.
