Jabalpur: Two innocent children died due to electrocution on Wednesday night at a Durga pandal located in the Bargi Hills area, under the Tilwaraghat police station jurisdiction of the district. The children had come to attend the Aarti organized at the Durga pandal. The accident caused chaos and fear among the people present. The District Collector has ordered a full investigation into the matter and a three-member team has been formed for the inquiry.
Two Children Die in Durga Pandal Accident
According to information, the incident occurred when an electrical garland (jhalar) used for pandal decoration caused a powerful electric shock. The current was so b that two children were immediately affected. The deceased have been identified as 6-year-old Ayush and 10-year-old Ved.
Family members immediately rushed the children to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared them brought dead. Following the incident, there was a stampede in the pandal as people ran in fear. Police arrived at the scene, conducted preliminary investigations, and sent the bodies for post-mortem examination.
Police Action
Tilwaraghat police have registered a case of accidental death (marg) regarding the deceased and have initiated an investigation. Police stated that the pandal was set up in front of the Chief Engineer's Office in Bargi Hills, and there was a significant crowd during the Aarti.
Police officials stated that the accident occurred due to a lack of safety standards during decoration and inadequate maintenance of electrical wires at the site. The police are now investigating the entire matter and attempting to ascertain responsibility for those at fault.
Collector Orders Inquiry
District Collector Raghvendra Singh has ordered a swift and impartial investigation into the incident. He has constituted a three-member inquiry team led by Gorakhpur SDM Anurag Singh. The team also includes SDO S.K. Sharma from the Public Works Department and Assistant Engineer Dinesh Pal from the East Zone Power Company.
The Collector has instructed the inquiry team to analyze all possible causes and submit a report within three days. The objective is to determine the actual reason for the accident and to establish measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
Minister and Administration Express Grief Over Accident
Public Works Minister Rakesh Singh expressed deep sorrow over the accident and ordered a compensation of two lakh rupees each to the affected families through the Red Cross. The Minister stated that the administration would conduct a thorough investigation into the accident and take necessary steps to ensure the safety of children in the future.
The local administration has also issued directives to strictly enforce safety standards during electrical installations and decorations in pandals. Officials have appealed to the public to ensure children participate in such events in a safe environment and to prevent any form of negligence.
