Mahakal Temple Alters Darshan Rules for New Year's Crowds; Online Bookings & Fast-Track Suspended

Ujjain Mahakal Temple announces temporary changes to darshan rules for New Year's crowds. Online/offline bookings closed Dec 25 - Jan 5, fast-track darshan suspended Dec 31 & Jan 1 for a smooth experience.

Considering the massive crowds expected at Ujjain's Mahakal Temple on New Year's occasion, the administration has introduced changes to the darshan (viewing) rules. Online and offline bookings will remain closed from December 25 to January 5. The fast-track darshan facility has also been temporarily suspended on December 31 and January 1.

Mahakal Temple: The renowned Mahakal Temple in Ujjain becomes a focal point of faith for millions of devotees during the New Year. An estimated 10 lakh (1 million) devotees are expected to arrive for darshan from December 25 to January 5. To manage the crowds, the administration has temporarily closed online and offline bookings for Bhasma Aarti. The Rs 250 expedited darshan facility will also be suspended on December 31 and January 1. This step has been taken to ensure a safe, organized, and equitable experience for all devotees.

Temporary Suspension of Online and Offline Bookings

During this New Year period, from December 25 to January 5, online bookings for Bhasma Aarti at the Mahakal Temple will remain temporarily closed. The offline booking process has also been suspended to control the crowds.
Despite this, 'chalit darshan' (moving darshan) for Bhasma Aarti will continue for devotees arriving from India and abroad, ensuring no devotee is deprived of the darshan.

Changes to Fast-Track Darshan Facility

The Rs 250 expedited darshan facility will also be temporarily closed on December 31 and January 1. The temple administration states that fast-track darshan has been paused for a short period, keeping the massive crowds in mind.
Last year too, for the same reason, all devotees were allowed darshan under an equitable system on these two days. This change will maintain balance and security in the darshan process.
