In Ujjain, a 22-year-old woman was tortured with iron chains, a burning wick, and a hot coin in the name of ghosts and spirits. Police arrested 3 out of 8 accused and admitted the victim to the hospital.
Ujjain: In Ujjain district of Madhya Pradesh, a 22-year-old married woman, Urmila Chaudhary, was subjected to extreme cruelty in the name of ghosts and spirits. The woman was beaten with iron chains, a burning wick was placed on her palms, and a hot coin was pressed against her forehead. The torture continued for approximately two and a half hours, after which the woman lost consciousness and was then released. The incident occurred in Shrivach village, Khachrod tehsil, 70 kilometers from Ujjain. Police have registered a case and initiated action against 8 accused.
Violent Attack on Urmila During Exorcism Ritual
The victim, Urmila, stated that she was called by relatives to remove the 'shadow of ghosts and spirits' from her body. Urmila arrived in the village with her mother on Saptami, September 29, during Navratri.
The woman informed the police that a woman named Suga Bai entered the room carrying a sword and a 'khappar' (a ritualistic vessel). She claimed that Urmila was possessed by a witch. Urmila resisted multiple times, but her pleas were ignored. Following this, Suga Bai and other men collectively injured Urmila with chains, a burning wick, and a hot coin.
Painful Torture and Hospitalization
The torture lasted from 9:30 PM to 12:00 AM. After the woman lost consciousness, she was brought to Ujjain city with the help of the village's Deputy Sarpanch. Due to her severe injuries and burn marks, the police admitted the woman to a government hospital.
The woman was married 6 years ago and has a 2-year-old daughter. Her husband had abandoned her simply because she gave birth to a girl, whereas he desired a boy. Urmila is now living with her mother in Ujjain.
Arrest of Three Accused in Woman's Case
A case was registered at the Women's Police Station under the direction of SP Pradeep Sharma. A total of eight accused were booked under BNS sections 115(2), 118(1), and 3(5).
Police have so far arrested three of the accused. The arrested individuals include Santosh Chaudhary, Kanha Chaudhary, and Raju Chaudhary. Police are continuously taking action to apprehend the remaining accused.
