UNSC Report uncovers TRF and Lashkar's nexus in Pahalgam terror attack. TRF claimed responsibility twice, then backtracked. Pakistan got TRF's name removed from UNSC statement.
UNSC Report: The reverberations of the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, 2025, have now reached the international stage. The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) Sanctions Monitoring Team, in its 36th report, has uncovered the conspiracy behind the attack. The report states that the responsibility for this attack was claimed by an organization called "The Resistance Front" (TRF), which is linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
26 Innocent Lives Lost
The attack on April 22 targeted a prominent tourist spot in Pahalgam. Five armed terrorists opened indiscriminate fire, killing 26 civilians and injuring many others. This incident shook not only Jammu and Kashmir but the entire country.
TRF claimed responsibility twice, then changed its stance
The UNSC report also revealed that TRF claimed responsibility for the attack on the day of the attack and the following day. They shared pictures of the attack site on social media, making it clear that their people were involved in the incident. However, on April 26, TRF suddenly backtracked and disassociated itself from the attack. After this, neither TRF nor any other terrorist organization openly claimed responsibility for the attack.
Deep connection between LeT and TRF
In the report, member states claimed that TRF is actually another face of Lashkar-e-Taiba. One country clearly stated that such a large attack would not have been possible without LeT's support. TRF has been described as LeT's front organization, which carries out activities under a different name to avoid international pressure.
However, another member state rejected this claim, saying that LeT is now inactive. But the UNSC report suggests that even if the organization's name is not in the forefront, its activities are still ongoing, and terrorist organizations are taking advantage of regional instability.
America declared TRF a terrorist organization
After this attack, the United States designated TRF as a "Foreign Terrorist Organization" (FTO) and "Specially Designated Global Terrorist" (SDGT). After this step by America, India's concern was further strengthened that organizations like TRF should be identified globally so that strict action can be taken against them.
UNSC's sharp reaction and Pakistan's role
Just three days after the attack, on April 25, the UNSC's 15-member council bly condemned this terrorist incident. The council appealed for the perpetrators of the attack to be punished. But it is surprising to know that Pakistan got TRF's name removed from the council's official statement.
