The Yogi Adityanath government has decided to provide a 20% reservation to former Agniveers in Uttar Pradesh Police, PAC, Mounted Police, and Fireman recruitments. This rule will come into effect from 2026.
UP Agniveer Reservation: The Uttar Pradesh government has taken a significant decision to provide 20% reservation to former Agniveers in police, Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC), Mounted Police, and Fireman recruitments. This step offers new employment opportunities to young individuals who have served the nation for four years.
Decision to Provide Reservation to Agniveers
The Uttar Pradesh government has made a crucial decision regarding recruitment in the police department. Now, former Agniveers will be given a 20% reservation in recruitments for police, PAC, Mounted Police, and Fireman in the state. This order has been issued by the state's Principal Secretary, Home, Sanjay Prasad.
The aim of this decision is to provide job opportunities to young people who have served the nation for four years under the central government's Agniveer scheme.
What is the Agniveer Yojana?
The Agniveer Yojana is a central government initiative that recruits young individuals into the armed forces for a four-year period. During this time, they serve the nation and are then discharged. The scheme aims to provide military training to young people and instill in them a sense of patriotism.
After their service, providing these young people with employment and social security for their new lives is also a government priority. In line with this, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to reserve positions in police recruitment for former Agniveers.
Who will be included in the recruitment process?
This reservation will apply to Agniveers who complete their service from 2026 onwards. This includes those who have completed four years of service and have exited the Agniveer scheme. Former Agniveers will also receive a three-year age relaxation in police recruitment, a benefit already granted to soldiers. This means they will have an additional three years added to the upper age limit for recruitment.
Furthermore, former Agniveers will have the opportunity to be recruited in the same category in which they apply. For example, if an Agniveer belongs to the general category, they will receive reservation within the general category.
Approval from the Yogi Government's Cabinet
The Uttar Pradesh government's cabinet approved this decision in a meeting held on June 3, 2025. The cabinet clarified that the total reservation in recruitment will not exceed 50%, maintaining a balance in the reservation system.
This decision has been taken keeping in mind social justice and the interests of young people. This will increase the number of disciplined, trained, and patriotic personnel in the police department.
