US-Russia talks in Moscow on the Ukraine crisis have been described as useful, but no agreement could be reached on several key issues. According to Putin's advisor Ushakov, further discussion is needed on territories and terms, while amendments to the peace proposal are ongoing.
US-Russia Meeting: A significant meeting between Russia and the United States took place in Moscow to end the war that has been ongoing in Ukraine for almost four years. This meeting was part of the peace framework being developed to resolve the ongoing conflict. Yuri Ushakov, senior foreign policy advisor to Russian President Vladimir Putin, described the talks as useful but also acknowledged that much work remains to be done.
High-Level Meeting in Moscow
Russian President Putin met with US President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, at the Kremlin. The meeting lasted for several hours, during which representatives from both countries held detailed discussions on the Ukraine war.
This meeting comes at a time when the Trump administration is making renewed efforts for its peace agreement. Both Russia and the United States want to push this issue forward quickly to bring the long-standing conflict to some resolution.
Details of Talks Not Made Public
Both the US and Russian sides decided not to make the main points of their discussions public. This decision is significant because the Ukraine issue is highly sensitive, and any statement could have major diplomatic repercussions.
Nevertheless, Yuri Ushakov did state that the discussions lasted approximately five hours and described them as “quite useful, constructive, and substantial.” The framework of the peace proposal was discussed in detail during these talks.

Issues of Disagreement
Ushakov clarified that agreement could still not be reached on several significant issues, especially those related to territories. This particular issue lies at the root of the Ukraine conflict.
He stated, “Some American proposals seem acceptable to a certain extent, but they require further discussion. Some of the terms suggested to us do not suit us, so the work will continue.”
This implies that both sides are being cautious regarding language, terms, and framework, aligning with their respective interests. Ushakov also indicated that there are other points of disagreement but declined to make them public.
Key Changes in US Peace Proposal
A few weeks ago, US President Donald Trump's peace proposal was unveiled. It was widely believed that the proposal favored Russia, which led Ukraine to reject it in its initial stages.
The initial proposal included highly sensitive conditions such as ceding a large part of Ukraine's eastern Donbas region to Russia and Ukraine joining NATO. These conditions were extremely difficult for Ukraine to accept.
Information has now emerged that changes have been made to the framework of the peace proposal. Although limited details about these modifications have been shared, it is being said that the new framework is more “suitable” for Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also described it as “better.”
Ukrainian President's Reaction
While Steve Witkoff is on a visit to Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is touring Europe. He is currently in Ireland, thanking countries that have supported Ukraine against Russia's aggression.
Zelenskyy stated, “There's a lot of talk, but we need results. Our people are dying every day. I am ready to meet President Trump.”
