The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that Shiksha Mitras will receive a monthly honorarium of ₹18,000 starting this month, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
The decision is expected to benefit a large number of Shiksha Mitras and instructors across the state who have been demanding an increase in honorarium for an extended period.
Under the announcement, Shiksha Mitras working in primary schools will receive ₹18,000 per month. A significant number of Shiksha Mitras are engaged in supporting teaching activities in primary schools across Uttar Pradesh, and their honorarium has remained a subject of dispute and dissatisfaction for a long time.
Shiksha Mitras have previously organised protests and repeatedly appealed to the government to address their demands related to low wages and financial constraints.
The government has also announced an increase in honorarium for instructors working under various schemes. The decision is expected to directly benefit thousands of such employees.
The state government stated that strengthening the education system requires financial empowerment of personnel working at the grassroots level. The decision has been taken with the objective of enabling both Shiksha Mitras and instructors to perform their responsibilities more effectively.
Following the announcement, several organisations representing Shiksha Mitras have welcomed the decision, stating that it addresses a long-pending demand.
However, some organisations said that while the move is appreciable, there remains a need for a permanent solution, including regularisation and additional benefits. They indicated that their demands would continue to be raised.
The government has indicated that other issues related to the education sector may be considered in the future. The impact of the current decision on the education system is expected to be assessed over time.
