“Mission Shakti 5.0” is an initiative by the Uttar Pradesh government aimed at strengthening the safety, dignity, empowerment, and grievance redressal for women. Its key points are listed below:
Initiation and Concept
Initiation: This campaign was launched on the first day of Shardiya Navratri. Duration: It will be run in a “mission mode” for approximately 30 days.
Main Objective: To prevent crimes against women, protect their dignity, make them self-reliant, and strengthen the grievance redressal mechanism.
Key Measures, New Provisions, and Mechanisms
Mission Shakti Centres
A dedicated centre will be established in every police station, where women will have facilities for filing complaints, seeking advice, and receiving monitoring/assistance.
These centres are to be operated sensitively — priority will be given to a woman officer for their leadership.
Ensuring the presence of women personnel at the station level — women's participation in constable, home guard, etc.
An SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) booklet has been issued to ensure that police and administration handle cases in a consistent and sensitive manner.
Advanced Police Surveillance and “Anti-Romeo Squad”
Special surveillance and protective measures have been taken in public places (temples, markets, fairs, etc.).
During the campaign, millions of inspections were conducted, numerous individuals were investigated, and a significant number of FIRs were registered.
Steps such as arrest of offenders, preventive action, and issuing warnings were taken.
