The counting of votes for the Uttarakhand Panchayat Elections 2024 has begun. 32,580 candidates are in the fray across 89 development blocks. Over 15,000 personnel and 8,900+ security personnel have been deployed for transparent counting.
Uttarakhand Panchayat: The counting of votes for the three-tier Panchayat elections in Uttarakhand commenced today at 8 AM. After two phases of polling in 12 districts of the state, excluding Haridwar, the fate of 32,580 candidates will be decided today as the ballot boxes are opened. Elections were held for a total of 10,915 posts. The administration and the Election Commission have made extensive preparations to ensure that this entire electoral process remains transparent and peaceful.
Where and When Elections Were Held and What Was the Voter Turnout
State Election Commission Secretary Rahul Kumar Goyal stated that the Panchayat elections were conducted in two phases on July 24 and 28. Polling took place peacefully in 89 development blocks across 12 districts, excluding Haridwar. The overall voter turnout was 69.16%, with women participating more actively than men. Women recorded a turnout of 74.42%, while the percentage for men was 64.23%. This data reflects the increasing electoral participation of women in the state.
Responsibility Entrusted to 15,024 Personnel
15,024 counting personnel have been appointed to ensure that the counting process is systematic and transparent. For security purposes, 8,926 security personnel have been deployed throughout the state. All security arrangements, including barricading at the counting centers, have been completed. The presence of a police circle officer or station head is mandatory at every counting center.
Counting Process and Online Updates
Counting is underway in 89 development blocks across the state, where the fate of candidates contesting for a total of 11,082 posts will be decided. The counting process is being monitored by observers, zonal magistrates, and senior police officers. As results are declared, they will also be uploaded to the commission's website through the respective Returning Officers.
Strict Ban on Victory Processions
The State Election Commission has issued clear instructions that no victory processions will be allowed after the declaration of election results. All District Magistrates have been instructed in this regard. Strict vigilance is being maintained to avoid overcrowding and untoward incidents.
Administration Alert from Tehri Garhwal to Champawat
The administration has made robust arrangements at counting centers in all districts, including Tehri Garhwal, Pauri, Almora, Nainital, and Champawat. Counting began at 8 AM and the picture regarding the results will be completely clear by late evening. CCTV cameras, sector magistrates, and medical teams have been deployed at all centers.
Assurance from the Election Commission
The State Election Commission has assured that the counting process will be as fair and transparent as the polling process was. The commission stated that administrative and technical support has been provided at every level, eliminating any possibility of irregularities.
