She started her career in South cinema and has created a distinct identity in Bollywood. However, very few people know that she is a trained software engineer. Coming from a normal family, Taapsee has touched many heights in the field of acting with her talent.

From Software Engineer to Model and then Actress

Born on August 1, 1987, in Delhi to a Jat Sikh family, Taapsee Pannu had a very normal childhood. Her father, Dilmohan Singh Pannu, is a retired real estate agent, while her mother, Nirmaljeet Kaur Pannu, is a homemaker. Taapsee's younger sister, Shagun Pannu, is a wedding planner. Taapsee completed her education at Mata Jai Kaur Public School in Delhi and obtained a degree in Computer Science Engineering from Guru Tegh Bahadur Institute of Technology.

After completing her engineering, Taapsee worked for a software company for some time. But soon, her interest turned towards modeling, and she started her career as a full-time model. After modeling, she turned to films and created a distinct identity for herself in acting.

Father's Car Was Set Ablaze in Riots

In an interview, Taapsee revealed that during the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi, her father's car was set on fire by rioters. However, her parents were not married at that time. She said that her father used to live in the Shakti Nagar area and he had seen all this with his own eyes. Fortunately, her family was not seriously affected by those events.

Taapsee started her acting career in 2010 with the Telugu film 'Jhummandi Naadam'. After this, she acted in about 10 films in Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam languages. In 2011, the Tamil film 'Aadukalam' with Dhanush gave her recognition in the South industry. This film proved to be a major hit, winning a National Award.

Created a Distinct Identity in Bollywood

In 2013, Taapsee made her Bollywood debut with 'Chashme Baddoor'. However, in 2015, her small action scene in the film 'Baby' was highly appreciated, and she began to be seen as a serious actress in Bollywood. After this, she gave powerful performances in films like 'Pink', 'Mulk', 'Thappad', 'Manmarziyaan', 'Badla'. Taapsee's films have earned well at the box office. Her two biggest hit films include:

  • 'Dunki' (₹450 crore) – with Shah Rukh Khan
  • 'Mission Mangal' (₹290 crore) – with Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, and other actors

These films established Taapsee as a commercially successful actress as well.
