The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for eight districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, ahead of the onset of the monsoon. Light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and b winds are forecast in several parts of the state on Monday.
Weather conditions in Uttarakhand have remained changeable, with cloud movement continuing in the hill regions while b sunshine and rising humidity have persisted in the plains. The Meteorological Centre has issued a yellow alert for several districts, warning of adverse weather conditions on Monday.
According to the department, isolated places in Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Tehri, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts may experience thunderstorms accompanied by rainfall. Lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40 to 50 kmph are also likely.
Meteorologists said light to moderate rainfall may be recorded in parts of Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts on Monday. Light rainfall is also indicated at isolated locations in other hill districts.
While no heavy rainfall has been forecast at present, residents have been advised to remain cautious due to the possibility of thunderstorms and b winds. Travellers using mountain routes have been advised to monitor weather updates.
Dry weather is expected to continue in the plains districts of Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar. Rainfall is considered unlikely in these areas, although b sunshine and moisture in the atmosphere may lead to humid conditions.
On Sunday, Dehradun and several other areas witnessed bright sunshine from the morning. Clouds developed later in the afternoon, but most areas did not receive rainfall. As a result, temperatures remained above normal levels.
According to weather department data, Dehradun recorded a maximum temperature of 36.7 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 24.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday. Pantnagar recorded a maximum temperature of 36.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 23.6 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures remained comparatively lower in the hill regions. Mukteshwar recorded a maximum temperature of 24.1 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 14.9 degrees Celsius, while New Tehri recorded a maximum temperature of 27.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 14.8 degrees Celsius.
The weather department said the state may have to wait a few more days for monsoon activity to become active. Similar weather conditions are expected to continue over the next few days. Residents have been advised to take necessary precautions in view of changing weather conditions and official weather advisories.
