Varanasi - Amidst the ongoing cold wave in North India, Varanasi and the Purvanchal region experienced dense fog and a biting chill this morning, disrupting daily life and traffic. The intensity of the fog slowed down vehicles, with cars seen proceeding with the aid of fog lights, particularly on the highways.
Tuesday morning was cold and shrouded in fog. While the temperature remained stable over the past 24 hours, the maximum temperature was significantly lower than normal. Locals reported that people only ventured out of their homes for essential work until 9 am.
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 15.8°C and the minimum at 9.0°C, both below normal. The combination of fog and cold persisted from morning till afternoon, and frost is anticipated.
The dense fog caused traffic to move at a snail's pace on the highways, with vehicles progressing at a much slower speed. Additionally, some locations experienced late arrivals/departures of flights and delays in train services.
The Meteorological Department states that this foggy condition is likely to persist for a few more days, and passengers and the general public are advised to remain vigilant.
