The demand for SUVs is constantly increasing in the Indian automobile market, and in this segment, Volkswagen is once again preparing to create a stir. The company is planning to launch a new avatar of its mid-size SUV, the Volkswagen Taigun. Testing of this facelift model has also started on Indian roads, glimpses of which were recently captured on camera.
Updated Taigun Spotted During Testing
Volkswagen's upcoming Taigun facelift was spotted for the first time in India during testing. The pictures that have surfaced clearly show the front and rear of the SUV covered. This makes it clear that the company is going to make major changes to the front and rear of the car.
In the testing model's design, the bumper, headlamps, and taillamps were hidden, suggesting that the facelift version will see a major change in these parts. However, there was not much difference in the car's body structure, which also makes it clear that its original shape will remain the same.
Cosmetic Changes in Looks
Most of the changes in the Volkswagen Taigun facelift will be cosmetic. This step by the company is considered to be aimed at making the design more attractive and premium.
The new model will get a new design for the front and rear bumpers. In addition, the headlights and taillights will also have a new style, which may be sharper and more modern than before.
This facelift version will look more fresh and youthful. The car may also get a new design for the front grille and alloy wheels.
New Colors and Features in the Interior
Volkswagen is also going to update the interior of its new Taigun. The facelift version may see new color options, new upholstery, and updated interior finishes.
In addition, the company may also add some new features to it. It is believed that this time the Taigun may be given premium features like a 360-degree camera, a larger touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, and a panoramic sunroof.
Apart from this, the car is also expected to have ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) safety features, which will make it one of the select premium SUVs in its segment.
No Changes in Engine
While there will be changes in the exterior and interior, the company's plan regarding the engine seems stable.
The Taigun facelift will get the same existing engine options that are currently available. The first engine is a 1.0-liter turbo petrol unit, which produces 115 horsepower and 178 Newton meters of torque.
The second option will be a 1.5-liter turbo petrol engine, which is capable of producing 150 horsepower and 250 Newton meters of torque. Both engines will be offered with manual and automatic transmission options.
When Will It Be Launched
According to media reports, the facelift version of the Volkswagen Taigun may knock in the Indian market in the beginning of 2026.
Although no official date has been revealed by the company yet, looking at the testing, it can be said that the car is almost ready and its launch may be announced soon.
Direct Challenge to Creta
Volkswagen's new Taigun will directly compete with the Hyundai Creta, which is currently considered the most popular mid-size SUV in India.
Apart from this, this car will also directly compete with Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor and the upcoming new Renault Duster.
The Taigun is known for its premium brand image and excellent build quality. Now, if new technology and style are added to it, it can create a stir in the segment.
