Transport Minister Announces Plans for Advanced Bus Stands
The Transport Minister has revealed that the proposed advanced bus stands will be designed based on a thorough study of international models currently in use in major cities such as Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Navi Mumbai, Singapore, London, and several cities in China. The new bus stands in Delhi will not just be “world class” in name; they will incorporate technology, design, and facilities of an international standard. Prior to design development, extensive research was conducted on existing models in cities including Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Navi Mumbai, Singapore, London, and China. The designs are being adapted to suit Indian conditions based on this comprehensive study.
Digital India Features
These BQS will feature digital display screens providing passengers with real-time information on bus routes, timings, and destinations via LED displays. This will improve passenger convenience and alleviate the discomfort associated with waiting for buses. Passengers will be able to access this information directly on the screens instead of relying on inquiries.
Transformation of Existing Bus Stops
Currently, Delhi has 4,627 designated BQS locations, with only 2,021 operational at existing bus stops. The remaining locations are either without bus stops or in a state of disrepair. The government’s plan is to systematically remove these outdated and dilapidated stops and replace them with new, durable bus stops constructed from stainless steel. This material will not only strengthen the stops but also extend their lifespan.
Expansion of Bus Stop Network
According to the Transport Department, the first phase will involve the construction of 1,397 new bus stops. Furthermore, 1,459 additional locations have been identified for future development, potentially expanding the network to over 2,800 new bus stands in the coming years.

The bus stands will include comfortable seating, shelters to protect against rain, LED lighting for nighttime visibility, and dedicated facilities for passengers with disabilities.
