How to Identify Gold Purity?

The easiest way to check the purity of gold is to look for the hallmark. Each karat of gold has a number indicating its purity. For example:

24-karat gold is marked 999, meaning it is 99.9% pure.
22-karat gold is marked 916, indicating 91.6% purity.
18-karat gold is marked 750, meaning it is 75% pure.
Gold purity can also be calculated based on the carat. For example, if you have 22-karat gold, its purity = (22/24) × 100 = 91.6%.

Importance of Gold Hallmark

The hallmark guarantees the purity of any gold jewelry. It ensures that the gold sold to the buyer is fully certified and meets quality standards.

A 999 hallmark means the gold is 99.9% pure.
A 916 hallmark means the gold is 91.6% pure.
A 750 hallmark indicates that the gold is 75% pure.

Therefore, always check the purity and hallmark of gold jewelry before purchasing. Also, remember to obtain a receipt and certificate at the time of purchase.

Caution During Purchase

Adulteration is a common problem when buying gold. Sometimes, gold that is only 89-90% pure is sold under the guise of 22-karat gold. Therefore, always check the hallmark and purity of jewelry before buying. Hallmarked jewelry clearly indicates the purity of the gold, helping to avoid adulteration.
