What is Gold Hallmark?

Gold hallmarking certifies the purity of gold. 22-karat gold, with a purity of 91.6%, is commonly used in jewelry. However, adulteration sometimes occurs, with 89-90% pure gold being falsely sold as 22-karat. Consumers need to be vigilant. Hallmarking provides accurate assessment of gold purity.

A 375 hallmark indicates 37.5% purity. 585 hallmark signifies 58.5% purity, 750 hallmark indicates 75% purity, 916 hallmark signifies 91.6% purity, 990 hallmark indicates 99% purity, and 999 hallmark indicates 99.9% purity.

How to Check Gold Purity?

Each karat of gold has a distinct hallmark. 24-karat gold has a 999 hallmark, 23-karat has a 958 hallmark, 22-karat has a 916 hallmark, 21-karat has an 875 hallmark, and 18-karat has a 750 hallmark. This eliminates ambiguity regarding gold purity for consumers. To determine the purity of 22-karat gold, divide 22 by 24 and multiply by 100 to obtain the actual purity percentage.

Keep an Eye on Gold and Silver Prices

Gold and silver prices constantly fluctuate. If you plan to buy jewelry, always check the hallmark and purity. Additionally, monitor the latest rates in your city to ensure you make purchases at the right price.
