NIA is continuously interrogating Tahawwur Rana. He will be taken to locations where he conducted reconnaissance with David Headley before the attacks.

Tahawwur Rana: Tahawwur Rana, a mastermind behind the 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks, has been extradited from the United States and is currently in custody at the NIA headquarters in Delhi. On Thursday, he was directly taken from Palam Airport to the Patiala House Court, which remanded him to 18 days of NIA custody. During these 18 days, Rana will be interrogated and taken to cities across the country where he conducted reconnaissance (reconnaissance) before the terrorist attacks.

Which cities will Tahawwur Rana be taken to?

A high-level meeting of NIA officials on Friday decided that Tahawwur Rana will be taken to Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Agra, and areas in Delhi where he visited with his accomplice David Headley before the 2008 attacks. This visit took place between November 13 and November 21, 2008. During this time, he was in contact with the ISI, Pakistan's intelligence agency, which also funded the terrorist attacks.

Could Tahawwur Rana face the death penalty?

Debate is intensifying over whether Tahawwur Rana, responsible for the deaths of 175 innocent people in this attack, will face the death penalty. According to Gyantan Singh, a senior Supreme Court advocate, "If the provision for capital punishment is clear in the extradition process, then he can be hanged in India." Under the 1997 Extradition Treaty between India and the United States, Article 8 clarifies that if the extraditing country does not support capital punishment, it can reject the request. However, capital punishment is also provided for in terrorism cases in the United States.

Indian law will apply in India

Tahawwur Rana's Canadian citizenship will not offer any relief, as Indian law will apply if the crime occurred in India. Experts believe the court may classify this case as "rarest of the rare" and impose the death penalty.

What will be the NIA's strategy?

The NIA team will question Tahawwur Rana about the larger conspiracy of the 26/11 attacks, funding sources, the role of the ISI, and other networks. In addition, all locations where Rana conducted reconnaissance will be investigated. Following this process, the NIA will prepare a comprehensive report, which will be presented as evidence in court.
