Congress Fields Alka Lamba Against AAP's Atishi in Delhi Assembly Elections

Delhi Election 2025: The Congress party has taken a significant step for the 2025 Delhi Assembly elections. The party has decided to field Alka Lamba, a national Congress leader and woman politician, against Atishi, the AAP's Chief Ministerial candidate, from the Kalkaji constituency.

Previously hesitant, Alka Lamba has agreed to contest after persuasion by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, the party's national president.

Decision Following Congress Leadership's Persuasion

Sources indicate that the Congress central election committee finalized Alka Lamba's candidature for Kalkaji last week. Initially, she was reluctant to contest. Subsequently, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi personally met with Alka Lamba, convincing her to accept the party's decision and enter the fray.

Last-Minute Ticket Shift

Initially, the party considered fielding Alka Lamba from the Chandni Chowk constituency. However, she later expressed a preference to contest from Kalkaji. Consequently, the party nominated Mudit Agrawal for Chandni Chowk and opted to field Alka Lamba against Atishi in Kalkaji.

Congress Strategy: Projecting a Strong Female Candidate

The Congress aims to challenge the AAP by presenting a powerful female candidate against the Chief Minister. This strategy is evident in the party's choices for other key constituencies in Delhi.

The Congress has nominated Sandeep Dikshit against Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency. Furthermore, Farhad Suri has been fielded against Manish Sisodia in the Jangpura assembly seat.

Nominations for Remaining 23 Seats Soon

The party plans to announce candidates for the remaining 23 assembly seats by January 3. This comprehensive approach demonstrates the Congress's resolve and preparation for the upcoming elections.
