New Delhi: The Delhi government is implementing the Ayushman Bharat Yojana from April 5th, prioritizing poor families. Health Minister Pankaj Singh stated that one lakh individuals will be enrolled in the scheme's first phase by April 10th. This initiative aims to improve Delhi's healthcare services and provide better treatment to the underprivileged.
Swift Implementation of the Scheme
The Health Minister emphasized that the scheme will be implemented rapidly following the signing of the MoU. The government aims to ensure that the scheme benefits the most vulnerable sections of society. This will strengthen Delhi's healthcare infrastructure and provide better treatment to patients. The implementation of a digital health record system will simplify monitoring and management.
Affordable Grain for Poor Families under the AAY Scheme
The Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) was launched in 2000. Under this scheme, the poorest families receive 35 kg of rice and wheat at subsidized rates (Rs. 3/kg for rice, Rs. 2/kg for wheat). The Ayushman Bharat Yojana, launched under the National Health Policy 2017, had not been implemented in Delhi until now. This scheme includes Ayushman Arogya Mandir, critical care blocks, integrated diagnostic facilities, PMJAY, and the National Digital Health Mission.
BJP Government Approved the Scheme in its First Cabinet Meeting
After 26 years, the BJP government formed in Delhi. The scheme was approved in the first cabinet meeting following the swearing-in ceremony of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and six ministers on February 20th. The current government has increased the health budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 by 48%. The AAP government had allocated ₹8,685 crore in 2024-25, while the BJP government increased it to ₹12,893 crore.
Delhi Residents to Receive up to ₹10 Lakh Insurance Coverage
A significant portion of this budget is allocated to central government health schemes, particularly Ayushman Bharat. The BJP government has allocated ₹2,144 crore for this scheme. Under the scheme, Delhi residents will receive insurance coverage up to ₹10 lakh, with the Delhi government bearing ₹7 lakh.
Under PM-ABHIM (Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission), ₹1,666.66 crore has been allocated for critical care and diagnostic facilities, while ₹147.64 crore has been allocated for financial protection under PMJAY (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana). The Chief Minister announced ₹10 crore for the Ayushman Digital Mission, which will modernize health records and implement an integrated data system.
Free Treatment for Poor Families in Delhi
This scheme will provide free medical treatment to poor families in Delhi. The costs associated with hospitalization, tests, and treatment will no longer be a burden for the poor. The government will also launch a special awareness campaign to ensure that every needy person benefits from this scheme.
