Jharkhand Police Kills Gangster Aman Sahu in Encounter
Notorious gangster Aman Sahu, a major headache for Jharkhand Police, was killed in an encounter on Tuesday morning in Palamau. The incident occurred while a Ranchi Police team was transporting him from Raipur for interrogation. During transit, the police vehicle met with an accident. Sahu seized the opportunity, disarmed a police officer, and attempted to escape, firing upon the police. In the ensuing crossfire, police fatally shot him.
Who was Aman Sahu?
Aman Sahu hailed from Matbe village, Thakurgaon, Ranchi district, Jharkhand. Initially a hardcore Naxalite, he formed his own criminal gang around 2013. He had over 100 cases registered against him in Jharkhand, including murder, extortion, and armed robbery. He frequently posted threatening messages and pictures brandishing weapons on social media.
Encounter in the Style of Uttar Pradesh
Sahu's encounter bears resemblance to those of notorious Uttar Pradesh gangsters Vikas Dubey and Atiq Ahmed's son, Asad. Similar to how UP Police handled those encounters after apprehending the criminals, Jharkhand Police cornered and eliminated Sahu.
It's noteworthy that Dubey's encounter occurred when the police vehicle carrying him overturned in Kanpur. Similarly, Asad was killed while attempting to escape police custody. Jharkhand Police employed a similar strategy, resulting in Sahu's death.
Police Focus on Aman Sahu's Gang
NIA investigations revealed Aman Sahu's gang's involvement in several serious crimes in Jharkhand. His gang also had links with other Naxalite and criminal organizations outside Jharkhand. According to police, Sahu was implicated in several cases, including an attack on a DSP, and extortion from contractors.
Absence of Senior Officers at the Scene
No senior police officers were present at the scene of the encounter. A police sub-inspector fatally shot Sahu. Reports indicate that Sahu was being transported by a Jharkhand STF (Special Task Force) team, and the encounter occurred at their hands.
Jharkhand Police had already made it clear that criminals would not be spared. The DGP had stated a day earlier in the state assembly that strict action would be taken against insurgents and criminals. Sahu's encounter, occurring the very next day, is viewed as a significant police operation.
Police Statements Following the Gangster's Elimination
Police officials state that Aman Sahu had been a significant challenge for Jharkhand Police for a long time. His gang was responsible for numerous criminal activities, and he consistently evaded police. Police have hailed this as a major success and are preparing to tighten the noose on the remaining members of his gang.
