The man, identified as Arvind Kumar, reportedly took this drastic action, though the exact motive remains unclear. The police are investigating the matter to determine the cause of this tragedy.
Details of the Incident
The incident occurred in Benwalia Bazaar, Bhojpur district, where Arvind Kumar ingested poison along with his four children. It is reported that Arvind's wife passed away eight months prior due to illness, leaving him emotionally devastated. He supported his children by running a small electronics shop, but caring for them alone after his wife's death proved increasingly difficult.
On Tuesday night, Arvind fed his children their favorite dinner of puri and vegetables, followed by a glass of milk each, which had been pre-mixed with poison. After consuming the milk, their condition rapidly deteriorated. No other person was present in the house to assist. Neighbors only discovered the incident when the door was eventually opened, after which they rushed everyone to Sadar Hospital, Ara.
Three Children Died During Treatment
Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors immediately commenced treatment, but it was too late for three of the children. Arvind's two daughters and one son died, while Arvind and his surviving son continue to receive treatment. According to local villagers, a wedding was taking place in the village at the time of the incident, resulting in many neighbors being absent at the wedding procession.
Meanwhile, Arvind's nephew informed the family that the children had suddenly fallen ill and were being taken to the hospital. It was later revealed that they had all ingested poison. Doctors stated that while the type of poison remains unidentified, the victims exhibited symptoms including swollen pupils, intense body pain, vomiting, and frothing at the mouth. Arvind and his son are currently under medical observation.
Police are investigating the case, attempting to ascertain Arvind's motive. Preliminary investigations suggest that he suffered from depression following his wife's death and was struggling to cope with raising his children alone.
