A two-day meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) is underway in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. This crucial meeting includes several senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and party president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Ahmedabad: On the first day of the ongoing Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Gujarat, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge launched a sharp political attack on the Sangh and the BJP. He stated that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's ideology was completely opposed to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and that twisting history to use his name for political gain is "political hypocrisy."

Sardar Patel Banned the RSS: Kharge

Kharge reminded the audience that Sardar Patel banned the RSS in 1948 following Mahatma Gandhi's assassination. He said that those who today claim Patel's legacy by erecting his statues are ignoring the historical fact that Patel himself had raised serious questions about the Sangh's functioning.

Congress to Celebrate Patel's 150th Birth Anniversary, Highlight True Ideology

The Congress president announced that the party will organize a nationwide event on October 31, 2025, to mark Sardar Patel's 150th birth anniversary, highlighting his true ideology and contributions. He said that simply calling Sardar Patel the "Iron Man" is not enough; it is essential to internalize his thoughts and values.

Kharge also clarified in his speech that there was no conflict between Sardar Patel and Pandit Nehru, as certain political forces are trying to portray. He quoted a 1949 statement by Patel, which said, "No one knows Nehruji's sacrifice and hard work better than me."

Some Forces Trying to Divide the Country: Kharge

Kharge accused the BJP and the Sangh of attempting to divide the country on communal lines and said that historical figures are being misused to distract the public from fundamental issues. He stated that those currently in power had no contribution to the freedom struggle, hence their reliance on using others' names.

Kharge also recalled that this year marks the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi becoming the Congress president, inaugurated in Belgaum, Karnataka, on December 26, where Gandhiji assumed the presidency in 1924. He highlighted that Gujarat's soil has given birth to leaders like Naoroji, Gandhi, and Patel, whose DNA is intrinsically linked to the Congress.
