Modi Cabinet Approves Key Infrastructure Projects

Modi Cabinet: The Indian government's cabinet meeting on Wednesday approved three major projects related to infrastructure, transport, and agriculture. These include the construction of a Zirakpur bypass, doubling of a railway line in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, and modernization of water management schemes. The aim of these projects is to improve regional connectivity, optimize water resource utilization, and stimulate economic activity.

Zirakpur Bypass Project to Ease Traffic Congestion

The central government has green-lit the construction of a Zirakpur bypass in Punjab and Haryana. This 19.2-kilometer bypass will be constructed at a cost of ₹1878.31 crore. Its primary objective is to improve connectivity between Mohali, Patiala, and Delhi to Himachal Pradesh and to reduce traffic congestion in urban areas.

Railway Doubling Project to Enhance Connectivity

The cabinet also approved the doubling of the Tirupati-Pakala-Katpadi single railway line. This 104-kilometer line will be constructed between Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu at a cost of ₹1332 crore. This project will provide better rail connectivity to 400 villages and approximately 1.4 million people, benefiting pilgrims and the tourism sector.

Approval for Water Management Modernization

Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY), the Command Area Development and Water Management (M-CADEWM) program has also been approved for the smart utilization of water resources. An initial budget of ₹1600 crore has been allocated for this scheme. Its goal is to enhance water use efficiency in agriculture and provide long-term benefits to farmers.
