Punjab farmers' protests continue. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has described them as detrimental to the state's economy and warned of action, while also emphasizing consideration for all stakeholders.
Punjab News: Farmers in Punjab remain steadfast in their demands, while Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann maintains a firm stance. A meeting between farmer organizations and the state government on Monday ended unsuccessfully. Farmers claim that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann became angry during the meeting and left abruptly. Conversely, Chief Minister Mann clarified that he adjourned the meeting because the farmers continued their protest even during discussions.
Chief Minister's Dissatisfaction with Continued Farmers' Protests
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed concern over the farmers' protests, including "rail roko" (rail blockade) and "sadak roko" (road blockade). He stated that these actions are causing economic losses to the state and turning Punjab into a "dharna" (protest) state. He further emphasized that his restraint should not be mistaken for weakness, as he is the protector of the entire state and will not hesitate to take action.
Why did Chief Minister Mann get angry during the meeting?
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that he questioned the farmers about their proposed March 5th protest. When the farmers indicated that the protest would proceed, he adjourned the meeting. He reportedly said, "If you intend to continue your agitation even while discussing with me, then there is no point in the meeting."
Farmer leaders criticize Chief Minister's behavior as inappropriate
Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Balbir Singh Rajewal objected to the Chief Minister's behavior, stating that he became extremely angry and left the meeting prematurely. Farmer leaders maintain that they will continue their protests until their demands are positively addressed.
Preparation for indefinite protest from March 5th
Following the failed meeting, farmer organizations announced a seven-day protest in Chandigarh starting March 5th. Farmer leaders have indicated that they are prepared for an indefinite agitation if the government does not meet their demands.
