Supreme Court Allows Ranveer Allahbadia to Resume ‘The Ranveer Show’ with Conditions, Issues Notice to Central Government on Online Content Regulation.
SC to Ranveer Allahbadia: The Supreme Court has granted significant relief to YouTuber and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia, allowing him to resume ‘The Ranveer Show’. However, the court mandated that the show must maintain decency. This ruling comes in the context of a case related to the controversial “India’s Got Latencies” roast show.
Hearing on Ranveer Allahbadia's Plea
Ranveer Allahbadia had petitioned the Supreme Court seeking the withdrawal of the order prohibiting his show’s broadcast. His lawyer argued that the show’s continuation is crucial as it supports the livelihoods of 280 individuals.
Directions Issued to the Central Government
The Supreme Court not only provided relief to Ranveer but also issued a significant notice to the Central Government. The court directed the government to submit its views on the regulation of content broadcast on online platforms.
The Controversy
Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, recently found himself embroiled in controversy. Last month, during the “India’s Got Latencies” roast show, he posed an extremely indecent question to a contestant: "Would you rather watch your parents engage in sexual activity every day of your life, or have them do it once and then stop forever?"
Following the viral spread of this statement, Ranveer Allahbadia faced intense criticism on social media. Many users condemned it as the proliferation of obscenity on digital platforms. The escalating controversy led to several police complaints being filed against Allahbadia, the show's host Samay Raina, and others.
