Waqf Bill: The Waqf Amendment Bill 2025 has been approved by both houses of Parliament. After passing in the Lok Sabha, the bill was also passed in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. After a lengthy debate and discussion late into the night, the government successfully managed to pass it.

PM Modi's Reaction

Following the bill's passage, Prime Minister Narendra Modi issued a statement. He termed it a "historic moment" and said,

“The passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill by both houses of Parliament marks a significant moment in our collective efforts towards socio-economic justice, transparency, and inclusive development.”

Prime Minister Modi stated that this law will particularly benefit those who have been marginalized for years and deprived of voice and opportunity. This bill will open a new door for them.

The Prime Minister thanked all the parliamentarians who participated in the parliamentary process and said that debate and dialogue are the soul of democracy. He also expressed gratitude to the parliamentarians and citizens who contributed to strengthening the Waqf Amendment Bill.

PM Modi said that the country is now entering an era where the governance structure will be more modern and sensitive to social justice. The government's priority is to ensure the dignity of every citizen, thereby building India into a b, inclusive, and compassionate nation.

Voting in Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha

After a discussion lasting about 12 hours in the Rajya Sabha, voting was conducted at 2:32 AM, with 128 votes in favor of the Waqf Amendment Bill and 95 against it. Earlier, the bill was also passed by a majority in the Lok Sabha, where 288 votes were cast in favor and 232 against it.
