Trump Administration's War Plan Leaked Before Yemen Attack: Defense Minister Shared Details in Signal Group Including Family Members.
Yemen War Plan Leak: The administration of former US President Donald Trump is once again embroiled in controversy. This time, the cause is the leak of top-secret military planning related to a US attack on Yemen, allegedly inadvertently disclosed by US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Reports indicate that just before the attack, on March 15, Hegseth shared the complete details in a private Signal group chat. Shockingly, this group included his brother, wife, and personal lawyer.
Report Creates Uproar
On April 20, The New York Times published a detailed report on the matter, claiming that highly sensitive information was leaked from a Signal chat group called ‘Defense Team Huddle.’ Hegseth himself created this group in January, and it was operated from his personal phone, not an official or encrypted government network.
Questions Raised About US Security System Following Plan Leak
The report alleges that the group shared information including the flight times of F/A-18 Hornet fighter jets that were to bomb Houthi rebel positions. This directly jeopardized national security. Previously, The Atlantic magazine made a similar revelation when National Security Advisor Mike Waltz mistakenly added a journalist to a planning group.
Why Was Classified Information Shared with Wife and Brother?
The biggest question is why and how such crucial defense information, including war timing, mission strategy, and jet deployment, was shared in a non-official group? The ethical and legal responsibilities involved become even more profound when close relatives and a personal advisor are included in the group.
