India Announces Squad for Sri Lanka Tri-Series; Shafali Verma Omitted
Last Updated: 08-04-2025

The Indian women's cricket team is gearing up for its next mission: a tri-series ODI tournament commencing in Sri Lanka on April 27th. This triangular series will feature the host nation, Sri Lanka, alongside India and South Africa.

Sports News: The BCCI has announced the Indian squad for the upcoming ODI tri-series in Sri Lanka, starting April 27th. India will face off against hosts Sri Lanka and South Africa. Significantly, the squad includes several young and new talents, while experienced batter Shafali Verma has been omitted.

Harmanpreet Kaur to Captain, Mandhana Vice-Captain

Harmanpreet Kaur will once again lead the team, with Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain. Both players have long been the backbone of the Indian team and will bring experience and strategic acumen to this new challenge. The selection committee has included three uncapped players, ready to make their international debuts:

1. Kashvi Gautam – Selected for her excellent fast bowling form.
2. Shri Charani – Rewarded for her all-round performance in domestic cricket.
3. Shuchi Upadhyay – An emerging spinner who caught the selectors' attention.

These three players are viewed as the future of Team India, and this tri-series will provide them with a golden opportunity to prove themselves.

Shafali Verma Once Again Omitted

Despite scoring 304 runs for the Delhi Capitals in the WPL 2025, Shafali Verma has again been left out of the squad. Her underwhelming performance in the 2024 T20 World Cup likely played a role in this decision. This omission is seen as part of the selectors' long-term strategy, focusing on experimentation with new faces.

Renuka Singh Thakur and young fast bowler Titas Sadhu have been included in the squad, but both players are not fully fit. If their recovery is not complete, backup options may get a chance.

Team India for the Tri-Series

Harmanpreet Kaur (Captain), Smriti Mandhana (VC), Pratiksha Rawal, Harleen Deol, Jemimah Rodrigues, Richa Ghosh (Wicketkeeper), Yastika Bhatia (Wicketkeeper), Deepti Sharma, Amanjot Kaur, Kashvi Gautam, Sneh Rana, Arundhati Reddy, Tejal Hasabnis, Shri Charani, and Shuchi Upadhyay.
