New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has officially announced Atishi as the Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. This important decision was taken at a meeting of the party's legislature party, which included Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and other top leaders. The crucial AAP MLA meeting was held today (February 23), a day before the commencement of the Delhi Assembly's budget session. In this meeting, Atishi was unanimously elected as the leader of the legislature party.

Announcing the decision, senior party leader and Babarpur MLA Gopal Rai said, "This decision has been taken considering Atishi's leadership capabilities and connect with the people. She will play the opposition's role with full force."

Why Atishi?

Atishi, MLA from Kalkaji, was previously known for her excellent work as the Education Minister in the Delhi government. She implemented several reforms in the education system and gave Delhi's government schools a new identity. Furthermore, she recently won a significant victory in the Assembly elections, defeating senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ramesh Bidhuri.

Unanimous Decision in AAP Legislature Party Meeting

Sandeep Pathak was appointed as an observer in the AAP legislature party meeting and oversaw the process. Sanjeev Jha proposed Atishi's name, which was unanimously approved by all MLAs. The meeting also included detailed discussions on the upcoming session of the Delhi Assembly and the opposition's agenda.

Atishi to be Aggressive Against BJP Government

Even after the change in power in Delhi, the Aam Aadmi Party is fully prepared to play the role of the opposition. Questioning the newly formed BJP government's first cabinet meeting in Delhi, Atishi stated that the promise of giving women ₹2500 per month has not yet been fulfilled. She wrote to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta requesting a meeting with AAP MLAs and seeking clarity on the Delhi government's schemes.

Party Leaders on Atishi's New Role

Gopal Rai said, "Atishi has always been fearless and outspoken. Her role as the opposition will not be limited to just questioning the government; she will also raise public issues prominently and hold the government accountable." This is a significant decision for AAP workers and supporters, as the party needed b leadership after the defeat of senior leaders like Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal. Atishi's appointment is expected to provide the party with new direction and strength.
