Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday urged all security agencies to work with coordinated efforts in Jammu and Kashmir during a security review meeting in Srinagar.
Srinagar: During a high-level security review meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Srinagar on the final day of his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, he declared a decisive fight against terrorism. He stated that the central government's priority is to transform Jammu and Kashmir into a "terror-free and development-oriented" region, requiring coordinated and robust strategies from security agencies.
Shah delivered a b message to the security forces, stating that the time has come to eliminate the remaining elements of terrorism in the valley. He emphasized that it is their responsibility to further strengthen the stability achieved after the revocation of Article 370.
'Zero Tolerance' Policy Reiterated
The Home Minister reiterated the Modi government's 'zero tolerance' policy against terrorism and commended the security agencies' actions to date. He noted a significant decrease in cross-border infiltration, terrorist activities, and the recruitment of local youth by extremist organizations. Shah explained that the support ecosystem for terrorists has been largely dismantled due to decisive steps taken by the central government, and now the focus is on completely tightening the noose.
Amarnath Yatra Security Paramount
During the meeting, the Home Minister also closely reviewed the preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra (July 3rd to August 9th). He instructed officials to ensure no compromise on security aspects during the pilgrimage. Special vigilance was directed towards the yatra route, base camps, transit zones, and communication systems.
During the development works review meeting, Shah stated that the Union Territory is now on the "expressway of development." He lauded the progress made in connectivity, industry, tourism, electricity, and agriculture, urging the administration to work in a "mission mode" in these sectors.
Tribute to Martyr DSP Humayun Bhat
Shah began his visit by meeting the family of DSP Humayun Muzammil Bhat, who was martyred in 2023. Paying tribute to the officer, posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, Shah said that the sacrifices of heroes like Humayun will not go in vain. Their martyrdom is the seed of the end of terrorism. While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was present at the development review meeting, he was absent from the security review meeting. This meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, and top officials from the Army, CRPF, BSF, RAW, IB, and other security agencies.
