Jharkhand Assembly Budget Session: Demand for 1932 Khatian-Based Domicile Policy Sparks Political Row
Jharkhand News: The Jharkhand Assembly's budget session witnessed a heated political debate over the implementation of a domicile policy based on the 1932 Khatian land records. JMM MLA Hemlal Murmu bly advocated for the complete enforcement of this policy. He stated that when Jharkhand became a separate state, then Chief Minister Babulal Marandi had implemented a domicile policy based on the 1932 Khatian, but this led to his downfall, resulting in Arjun Munda becoming Chief Minister.
Babulal Marandi's Rebuttal: "Your Role in My Government's Fall"
BJP leader and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi reacted sharply to Murmu's statement. He countered, “Your role in the downfall of my government was significant. My government didn't fall because of the 1932 Khatian policy, but due to your political maneuvers.”
Hemlal Murmu: From BJP to JMM
Hemlal Murmu is a former Member of Parliament (14th Lok Sabha), representing the Rajmahal constituency in Jharkhand. He contested the 2019 elections as a BJP candidate but joined the JMM in 2023. He is now a senior leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha.
Health Minister Irfan Ansari Rejects Corruption Allegations
The assembly also debated irregularities in the National Health Mission (NHM). BJP MLA Raj Sinha alleged irregularities amounting to ₹50 crore in the health department.
Responding to these allegations, Health Minister Irfan Ansari stated, "Don't make baseless allegations; there are no irregularities in the health department. If you have concrete evidence, provide it in writing, and we will conduct an investigation.”
He acknowledged some irregularities in the Janani Suraksha Yojana in Koderma and Godda, adding that FIRs have been filed in these cases.
BJP's Counterattack: "Government is Covering Up"
BJP leader Raj Sinha attacked the state government, alleging widespread corruption in National Health Mission programs. He accused the government of attempting to conceal these scandals. Sinha stated, "These irregularities are also reflected in the audit report, but the minister is trying to deny them."
