New Delhi/Colombo – Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his three-day visit to Sri Lanka today with the inauguration of a significant project, further strengthening bilateral ties. PM Modi and Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe jointly inaugurated the Anuradhapura railway project and flagged off a new train service.
Expansion of Sri Lanka's railway network with Indian assistance
Prime Minister Modi, along with the Sri Lankan President, launched the Maho-Anuradhapura railway line signaling system, a crucial connectivity project supported by the Indian government. The renovated track of the Maho-Omanthai railway line was also inaugurated.
PM Modi conferred with the 'Mitra Vibhushan' Award
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi was conferred with the 'Mitra Vibhushan' award by the Sri Lankan government. This honour recognized his significant contribution to strengthening the historical, cultural, and strategic relationship between India and Sri Lanka.

Prime Minister Modi stated that India and Sri Lanka share common security interests and that these collaborations will promote stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
Visit to the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Temple
Prime Minister Modi also visited the Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Temple in Anuradhapura, a historically significant city in Sri Lanka. He offered prayers there with President Wickremesinghe, highlighting the depth of bilateral cultural ties.
