Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Thailand and Sri Lanka in April 2025. According to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, PM Modi will visit Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, from April 3-4, 2025.

New Delhi: India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi will undertake a visit to Thailand and Sri Lanka in April 2025. The primary objective of this visit is to foster regional cooperation and further strengthen bilateral ties with both nations. PM Modi will participate in the sixth BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) Summit, scheduled to be held in Bangkok, Thailand, from April 3rd to 4th. Following this, he will visit Sri Lanka from April 4th to 6th.

Significance of the Thailand Visit

Prime Minister Modi's visit to Bangkok holds significant diplomatic importance as he will participate in the BIMSTEC Summit. This meeting marks the first in-person summit since the fourth BIMSTEC Summit held in Nepal in 2018. The fifth meeting, held in Colombo in March 2022, was conducted virtually.

Aiming to further strengthen India's role in BIMSTEC, Prime Minister Modi will engage in discussions on issues such as security, trade, investment, connectivity, climate change, energy cooperation, and human security. Furthermore, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Thailand's Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. This meeting will focus on discussing new initiatives to promote trade and cultural partnerships between the two countries.

Sri Lanka Visit: Focus on Development and Cooperation

Following Thailand, Prime Minister Modi will visit Sri Lanka from April 4th to 6th. During this visit, he will meet with Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe. Discussions will center on strengthening diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties between the two nations. Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate development projects in Sri Lanka funded by Indian financial assistance.

New projects will be launched, particularly in Anuradhapura. Notably, President Wickremesinghe's first overseas visit as President was to India, highlighting the b relationship between the two countries.

New Direction for Regional Cooperation

Prime Minister Modi's visit will further strengthen India's role in the Indo-Pacific region. BIMSTEC will open new dimensions for regional cooperation. Simultaneously, it will inject new energy into bilateral relations with Sri Lanka. This visit will not only improve India-Thailand and India-Sri Lanka relations but also serve as a positive signal for peace, stability, and development in the Indo-Pacific region.
