Punjab News: Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal announced the end of his 126-day hunger strike at a mahapanchayat held at Sirhind Anaj Mandi in Fatehgarh Sahib. Dallewal had begun an indefinite hunger strike on November 26th of the previous year, demanding legal guarantees for Minimum Support Price (MSP). He accused the central government of betraying the farmers.
Mahapanchayats Continue Amidst Punjab Protests
Mahapanchayats are being organized at various locations in Punjab to protest the removal of farmer protests at the Shambu and Khanauri borders. At the Fatehgarh Sahib mahapanchayat, Dallewal stated that the movement will continue until their demands are met.
Government Betrayed Farmers: Dallewal Alleges
Farmer leader Dallewal said, "The government, on one hand, calls us for meetings, and on the other, forcibly takes action against our protest sites at night. This is deception." He appealed for continued farmer support for the movement and stated that the struggle will continue until their demands are fulfilled.
Appeal by Union Ministers
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu had appealed to Dallewal to end his hunger strike. Chouhan stated that discussions between the government and farmers are ongoing, and he wished for Dallewal's speedy recovery.
Farmer Movement and Government Dialogue
Even after ending his hunger strike, Dallewal clarified that the farmer movement will continue until their primary demands are met. Farmer pressure on the government will persist, and the series of mahapanchayats in Punjab will continue.
