Punjab Police arrested four individuals and seized 4 kilograms of heroin on Sunday, dismantling a narco-terror module.
Chandigarh: Punjab Police achieved another significant victory in its fight against drugs. In a major crackdown on a narco-terror module in the Chheharta area of Amritsar, four drug traffickers were arrested, and 4 kilograms of heroin were recovered. According to police, this operation was conducted based on intelligence inputs, and the arrested individuals are suspected to have links with international drug cartels.
How the Operation Unfolded
Punjab Police DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that this operation was jointly conducted by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) and the Counter-Intelligence Unit. Following intelligence inputs, police laid a trap in the Chheharta area and apprehended the four traffickers. Police seized 4 kilograms of heroin, estimated to be worth crores of rupees in the international market.
Exposure of a Large Trafficking Network
Those arrested include Navjot Singh, Sukhwinder Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Aniket. Police sources indicate that these individuals were involved in drug trafficking for a considerable period, smuggling heroin from across the border and supplying it within Punjab. Investigating officers believe this gang operated not only locally but also in collaboration with an international drug syndicate. Police are currently interrogating the accused to ascertain the heroin's origin and intended destination.
Previously, Punjab Police had also busted a hawala financing module linked to drug trafficking and arrested two hawala operators – Sukhjit Singh and Ranbir Singh. During their arrest, ₹17.6 lakh in cash and a laptop containing evidence of significant financial transactions related to drug trafficking were seized.
Police's Stern Warning
DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that Punjab Police is fully committed to eliminating organized crime and the drug mafia. He emphasized that strict action would be taken against anyone involved in such illegal activities. Police officials hinted that this case is not closed. Based on information obtained from the arrested traffickers, police will soon take action against their associates and larger drug suppliers.
Rising Drug Trafficking in Punjab: A Growing Concern
The escalating drug problem in Punjab has been a long-standing concern. Police and security agencies are continuously working to dismantle this network, but the drug mafia continues to operate using new methods. The Punjab government and police administration are constantly conducting campaigns to eradicate this problem at its root.
This recent action by Punjab Police demonstrates the administration's vigilance in eliminating the drug trade at its source. However, it will be interesting to see how successful the police are in reaching the entire chain of the drug mafia following these arrests.
